Our Skin Health Blend is brewed with butterfly pea, naturally rich in anthocyanins — the plant pigments responsible for its distinctive blue colour. Anthocyanins are powerful antioxidants that have been studied for their ability to help protect cells from oxidative stress. Combined with naturally fermented kombucha, which itself contains antioxidant compounds produced from the tea and fermentation process, this blend takes a food-based approach to supporting overall antioxidant and skin health.
In a randomized crossover trial involving 15 healthy men, consumption of butterfly pea flower extract significantly increased several measures of antioxidant capacity in the blood and reduced malondialdehyde, a marker associated with oxidative stress.
Another randomized human study examined butterfly pea flower extract following a high-fat meal and found that the extract increased antioxidant status and influenced several post-meal metabolic responses.
Kombucha itself contributes additional antioxidant activity through its tea-derived polyphenols and fermentation products. Research has found that kombucha beverages can demonstrate significant antioxidant activity.
